Kid’s Night at the Races took place at Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) on Saturday night with 49 race teams on hand to race on the track as the kids did during the intermission break. There were 9 Midwest Mods, 10 Pure Stocks, 13 B-Mods, and 17 Super Stocks.

During the night drivers raced their way onto the main event starting grids through 9 preliminary heat races leading up to the four feature events. At the end of the night, feature race victories went to Clayton Campbell in Super Stocks, Chad Clancy in B-Mods, Bobby Russell in Pure Stocks, and Alex Schultz in Midwest Mods.

The kids also competed in their annual foot races on the track during the intermission break in boys and girls age groups. Winners of the foot races were Able Cox in Boys 3 and 4, Kodi Fitzpatric in Girls 3 and 4, Jase Schlarb in Boys 5 and 6, Charlotte Wilbur in Girls 5 and 6, Gavin Rindels in Boys 7 and 8, Autumn Wilbur in Girls 7 and 8, Bodie Twenter in Boys 9 and 10, Tenley Angell in Girls 9 and 10, Pete Jackson in Boys 11 and 12, and Gracie Nighswonger in Girls 11 and 12.

CMS wishes to thank Ashley Walls for arranging such a special night for the young race fans. Each child received a coupon for ice cream and a hot dog and was eligible to win bicycles.  Each kid 12 and under also received a free goodie back stuffed with various school supplies, trinkets, treats, and donations from drivers, fans, track personnel, and local businesses. Thank you to everyone for making this such a special and important night in the hearts and minds of the young race fans!

Aaron Poe earned the bragging rights in the Super Stock drivers foot race and collected $100 for the victory from Kircher racing, narrowly edging out fellow racer Cameron Kelly. Poe earned front-row starting honors for the night’s closing race, the 20-lap Super Stock main event alongside James Nighswonger. Poe quickly shot out to an early race lead over third-starting Clayton Campbell and Nighswonger. By lap four, Campbell began closing in on Poe up front as the two distanced themselves from the rest of the field. By lap nine, Campbell ran side-by-side with Poe but couldn’t gain the lead as Poe held onto the top spot. Meanwhile, Dave Meyer moved into the top three by lap 10. A flurry of action took place in the second half behind Poe, Campbell, and Meyer with eleventh-starting Marc Carter moving into the top five along with Chris Kircher. Larry Ferris, Tyler Perryman, and Devin Irvan also kept the top five within their sights. It appeared Poe was going to return to victory lane, but on lap 18 he went too high in the turn four area and was unable to avoid contact with the high wall utility tire as his night came to a crushing end. Campbell assumed command of the race at this point and went on to collect his first win of the season and 37th of his career at CMS. Meyer advanced from eighth on the grid to come away second with Nighswonger running a consistent race to third. Carter was fourth, followed by Kircher and Larry Ferris at the finish.

Jeremy Lile and Jacob Ebert captured the row one starting positions for the B-Mod main with Ebert moving to the front in the opening stages of the 20-lap event. Tim Karrick quickly moved in to challenge Ebert up front while Lille, Chad Clancy and Terry Schultz looked to move forward. On lap four, Ebert and Karrick were battling hard for the lead down the back chute as the pair briefly got together sorting out the top spot. Ebert held off the charge through a lap six caution as Lile’s night abruptly ended down the back stretch. For the restart, Ebert now led Chad Clacny, Karrick, Terry Schultz, and Brad Smith. For the next several laps, a blanket could have been tossed over the field in the top five in a fierce battle for the lead. Clancy eventually took the top spot by lap eight with Karrick second and Smith third. A second caution waved over the field just passed the halfway point with Clancy leading Karrick and Smith. Over the closing laps, Clancy held the top spot over Karrick, Schultz, and Smith. Clancy eventually went on to collect the victory, his second CMS win of the year. Karrick settled for second with Schultz narrowly capturing third ahead of Smith, Stephen Clancy, and Ebert.

Team Harper Racing and Super Stock driver Danny McKenzie each added $200 to the overall Pure Stock purse to try and improve their numbers. The drivers each earned extra money throughout the field courtesy of these race teams and Central Missouri Speedway wishes to thank them for their generosity.

Jonathan Evans and multiple-time winner Bobby Rusell began the night’s 15 lap Pure Stock feature from the front with Russell gaining the early lead over Evans, Darrin Christy, and Larry Drake. Blaine Nolker ran strong early but his night ended early by lap six as he retired from the event while David Doelz’s crew was able to return him to the race after changing a rear tire during caution. Russell continued to hold point at the front over Evans and Christy through lap 11, when caution flew for the second and final time. For the restart Russell proved too strong for the field once again as he went on to collect win number seven on the season. Evans ran smooth and consistently in the second spot with Christy in third, for his best CMS finish of the year. Larry Drake advanced to fourth with Doelz recovering nicely for fifth while Ryan Oerly completed the top six.

Dustin Dennison and Alex Schultz earned the front-row starting spots for the 15-lap Midwest Mods main event, but it was the youngster, Schultz, who powered his way to the front over Dennison and Brian Meyer in the race’s early stages in a close battle at the front. Schultz and Dennison traded the lead in a close and clean side-by-side battle for the top spot. Yellow flew over the field at lap five with Schutlz leading Dennison, Meyer, Logan Roark, and David Wood. Meyer raced close with the leaders until Dennison retook the second spot at lap 11. The top three was very close and it was anyone’s race at this point, but on this night, it was Alex Schultz who captured his first-ever CMS victory at the age of 15! Dennison was consistent in second with Meyer turning in a strong run to third. Wood finished fourth over Roark, and Austin Smith.
